In this course, students learn to use the software package SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) to perform statistical analysis on data of different kinds. The course is organised into three topic blocks.

Topic block 1 : Students acquire the basics of the package, learn to operate the different windows or screens and receive an introduction to selecting and filtering cases for their particular research or analysis needs.

Topic block 2: Students learn to create new variables or use the SPSS Transform command to compute new variables from existing ones in order to improve the information provided by databases.

Topic block 3: Students examine the different features offered by the package (especially the univariate data analysis tools) and receive an introduction to bivariate analysis and the tables, charts and graphs used to summarise data.

As far as possible, the teachers attempt to include a gender perspective in both the analyses and the assignments.
