At the end of the course, students should be able to:

— Define the role of the supply chain in organisations.
— Identify the main functions performed by the supply chain, as well as its roles and responsibilities.
— Describe the interactions of the supply chain department with the rest of the organisation.

— Analyse new management trends in the operation area.
— Develop a project on the situation and a future improvement plan of a supply chain.

Teaching methods and general organization


The methodology is based on two main ideas:

• Knowledge arises from debates.
• In the operation area there are (almost) no absolute truths.

Therefore, knowledge is obtained through the discussion of the different topics after reading the assigned documentation and articles.

In the case study, each group analyses the supply chain of the assigned company through the concepts introduced during the course.



Official assessment of learning outcomes


The assessment procedure for this subject is continuous assessment, consisting of a range of activities assessed on a scale of 1 to 10. In addition to the qualification, students receive the solution, a comment on the assessment or the guidelines for its understanding, as appropriate.

The final grade is composed of the following activities:

• Case studies: 25%

• Active participation in discussions: 25%

• Final exam: 25%

• Commentaries on the reading material: 25%

Case studies should be correctly presented and contain the presentation of the ideas related to the key points of the subject. Conclusions are especially important.

Repeat assessment

Students with a final grade below 5 out of 10 have to take a final exam. The date is the one established by the Academic Council. This part is worth 100% of the final grade.

Students pass this subject if they achieve a final grade of at least 5 out of 10.


Examination-based assessment

Students who do not attend class regularly are entered for this assessment procedure.

Single assessment consists of a final examination. The date is the one established by the Academic Council. This part is worth 100% of the final grade.
