Learning objectives

 

Referring to knowledge

The aim of this subject is to provide students with hands-on training through an internship carried out at a company or a directed research project carried out at a research group. Students carry out an internship of up to 12-weeks, which may be full-time or part-time depending on the needs of the project. Students will gain experience working in a research environment and / or working with a company.

 

The particular learning objectives of each internship are defined in the specific agreement signed by the company/research group

Teaching methods and general organization

 

Students gain supervised, hands-on training guided by a supervisor at the host institution / company. Student and supervisor will develop clear goals in terms of acquiring conceptual knowledge and technical & transferrable skills. Progress is monitored through a project plan, report and assessment by the supervisor.

 

 

Official assessment of learning outcomes

 


  1. 1-page initial Project Plan evaluated by the course coordinators, due within one week of the start date of the internship.  Plan should include practical and theoretical knowledge to be gained, and tasks to be performed. (20%) 

  2. 2-page (max.) project report evaluated by the course coordinators, due within 2 weeks of the end date of the internship. (40%) 

  3. Assessment of performance evaluated by the supervisor, due within 2 weeks of the end date of the internship. Assessment will take into account performance of tasks assigned, knowledge gained, and communication and organizational skills and integration into the group (40%)
