Teaching methods and general organization

The course content is taught through face-to-face or online lectures complemented by practical sessions, coursework assignments, critical commentaries of selected news stories, and individual or group tutorials. It is important for students to attend face-to-face or online sessions and to complete the activities set throughout the course. In project-based learning (PBL) groups, teaching focuses on active learning, building students’ knowledge through the resolution of exercises. This methodology entails the use of different activities in face-to-face or online sessions to foster more effective directed and independent learning. All activities are geared towards the acquisition of knowledge and skills for solving specific problems in compliance with existing law and regulations.

Official assessment of learning outcomes

Continuous assessment is based on practical sessions, class participation and, if applicable, tests completed during the course. This option also includes a compulsory final examination on the date decided by the Academic Council.

The final grade is weighted between the average mark for continuous assessment activities (50%) and the mark for the final examination (50%). The lecturer of each group may decide to change this weighting. In this case, the weighting is specified on the Virtual Campus. Students must obtain a pass grade for the continuous assessment activities and the examination. Taking the final examination is compulsory.

Students in the PBL (project-based learning) group are entered for continuous assessment, and the overall mark obtained is the final grade for the subject.

Students are entitled to repeat assessment as long as they meet the general requirements set by the corresponding academic body, under the same conditions as the continuous assessment option.

Examination-based assessment

Single assessment consists of a final examination on the date set by the Academic Council.

Students may follow the continuous assessment option or request single assessment. To be eligible for single assessment, students must submit a formal request in accordance with the calendar and procedures established by the Academic Committee.

Students who sit the final examination are entitled to repeat assessment, under the same conditions as the standard single assessment option.
