Official assessment of learning outcomes

Assessment serves to verify that the student has acquired the competencies and achieved the learning objectives set out in the course plan. The assessment process offers two pathways: continuous or single modes of evaluation. Those who present for repeat assessment sit a final exam as in the single mode of assessment.

The deadline for opting out of continuous assessment is 20th October 2025.

Continuous assessment is recommended for students who attend class regularly, as tests are set throughout the semester.

The evaluation of learning outcomes takes into account the following activities:

Compulsory activities

  • Individual tasks (written compositions, reading comprehension exercises, etc.): 10%.
  • First examination (I): 30%.
  • Second examination (II): 30%.
  • Oral examination: 30%.

Other activities completed in or out of class
  • Further study and review of the material introduced in the classroom.
  • Self-evaluation exercises.

Examination-based assessment

Students opting for single assessment sit a final examination covering all the course content on the official date of the standard exam session. The examination consists of a written component (including grammar and communication exercises, written expression, reading comprehension, and listening comprehension): 60%; and an oral component (40%).

Students on the single assessment pathway have the opportunity to opt for a task-based assessment if they demonstrate a level of linguistic competence higher than that required in the official course syllabus.

This alternative consists of a series of written and oral tasks outlined at the beginning of the course. These tasks are designed to develop specific competencies related to business communication in an international context.

Students who are interested in this mode of assessment must contact the course tutor at the start of the academic year and attend a personal interview.

Repeat assessment

If the student does not pass the course via either the continuous or single assessment pathways, he or she has another opportunity to pass the course. The content, procedures, and evaluation criteria are the same as those used in the single assessment format.
