Classwork and non-classroom-based activities

— Theory and practical work and practical exercises: instruction in theoretical concepts and the corresponding practical exercises. The exercises are designed to develop productive and receptive skills. They include oral comprehension and reading, written communication and vocabulary, error analysis, and peer- and self-evaluation exercises. Simulations of situations involving academic, everyday and business communication.

Directed work

— Preparation, supervision and completion of the individual/group exercises set throughout the course.

— Further study and review of the concepts introduced in the classroom.

Independent learning

— Independent study, preparation and completion of exercises and tests that form part of the continuous assessment.

Official assessment of learning outcomes

Assessment is designed to clearly show the level of achievement of the established objectives and competences. In terms of assessment for the subject, there are two possibilities: continuous assessment and single assessment.

Repeat assessment may only take the form of single assessment.

Continuous assessment

Continuous assessment is recommended for students who attend class regularly, as tests are set throughout the entire teaching period. Students who wish to take this option must achieve a minimum score of 4 in the comprehensive examination II. Otherwise, the final grade will be Absent.

Students may renounce continuous assessment until the last day of class, and no prior notification to the lecturer is required.

The evaluation of learning outcomes takes into account the following activities:

— Team and/or individual activities within and/or outside of the classroom (activities to apply and transfer contents, written texts and oral practice activities, among others): 15%.
— Comprehensive examination I: 20%.
— Comprehensive examination II: 45%.
— Oral examination in pairs: 20%.

Repeat assessment

Students who do not pass the course through continuous assessment have the right to repeat assessment. The content, form and criteria are the same as for the single assessment.

Examination-based assessment

Students who opt for single assessment will sit a final examination on the entire course content held on the day of the first sitting for examination. The examination will comprise a written component including vocabulary and grammar exercises, a written exercise, reading comprehension, listening comprehension and oral communication. Each part will be worth 20% of the final mark.

Repeat assessment

Students who do not pass the single assessment examination at the first sitting have the right to repeat assessment. The content, form and criteria are the same as for the single assessment.
